Centennial Hops Spotlight: Celebrating 10 Years at Western Herd
Welcome to the first entry in our “Brewer’s Storehouse” series, where we’re shining a spotlight on the ingredients that make our beers stand out. As we mark 10th year of crafting unique beers here in Kilmaley, we’re excited to introduce a special beer that highlights an extraordinary hop variety—Centennial.
The Superstar Hop: Centennial
Centennial hops have become a staple in the craft brewing community since their release in the 1970s. Known for their balanced bittering properties and a lush bouquet of aromas, Centennial hops offer hints of citrus, floral, and a touch of evergreen, making them a versatile and beloved choice for brewers.
Characteristics and Uses
Centennial hops are renowned for their versatility in brewing. They deliver a robust hop punch when used for bittering and, when added later in the process, release aromatic oils that infuse the beer with vibrant floral and citrus notes. This flexibility makes Centennial hops perfect for creating everything from bold IPAs to well-rounded Pale Ales, catering to a variety of palates and preferences.
Western Herd’s Special Centennial Brew
To celebrate ten years of craftsmanship at Western Herd, we’ve developed a distinctive beer that fully captures the essence of the Centennial hop. So, today the brewery is bursting with the unmistakable Centennial aromas. We’re talking a punchy mix of floral and citrus that just takes over the brewery!
Why Centennial?
Choosing Centennial hops for our anniversary beer felt right. Much like Western Herd, it embodies a spirit of resilience and complexity. Its dual-purpose nature reflects our approach to brewing—adaptable, reliable, and always striving for the highest quality. The recipe is a nod to our origins, emphasizing the high standards, simplicity, and pristine quality of our ingredients that set us apart from the start.
