Celebrating a Decade at The Old Ground Hotel
Some relationships just quietly work — built on consistency, shared standards, and showing up week after week with the same goal: giving people a uniquely Clare experience.
For us, that’s exactly what our relationship with The Old Ground Hotel in Ennis has been for the past ten years.

A decade of Western Herd on draft
From the early days of Western Herd, the Old Ground has had our beer on tap — and not just for a summer season or a special event, but consistently for a full decade. In an industry where taps can change overnight, that kind of steadiness means a lot. It speaks to trust, and to a hotel that genuinely values local produce done properly.
An iconic Ennis favourite
If you’ve ever stayed in the Old Ground, you’ll know it’s more than “just a hotel”. It’s a landmark right in the heart of town — a place visitors return to year after year for the welcome, the comfort, and the atmosphere that makes Ennis feel like Ennis.
But it’s not just visitors who love the Old Ground — it’s a firm favourite with locals too. It’s the place people choose for all of life’s big (and small) celebrations from weddings to birthdays. That’s what makes it more than just a hotel in the centre of town — it’s part of the social fabric of Ennis, where memories are made and special occasions are properly marked.
And for plenty of guests — locals and visitors alike — a pint of Western Herd has become part of that experience. After a day exploring Clare, driving the Wild Atlantic Way, catching a session in town, or just soaking up the buzz of Ennis, there’s something class about settling in and seeing a familiar local beer on the bar every time.
Why it matters to us
We’ve always believed that what’s brewed in Clare should be enjoyed in Clare — and partnerships like this are exactly how that happens. The Old Ground has helped introduce Western Herd to thousands of visitors over the years, and in turn, those guests have carried the story of West Clare beer home with them.
Ten years on, we’re proud that Western Herd is still a firm favourite in one of Ennis’ most iconic spots — and we’re grateful to Allen Flynn and the entire Old Ground team for keeping us pouring year after year.
