The Western Herd brewery stands on a picturesque hilltop farm in a converted shed built over 80 years ago by our great-grandfather.
We are a brother sister team brewing beer the way nature intended. Our great, great, great, great, great, grandfather farmed the land where our brewery now stands. Every time we would visit the farm growing up we would think ‘if only we could bottle this’!!! We aspire to brew beers that embody the charm and character of this idyllic hilltop farm on the west coast of Ireland.
Originally from Montana USA, Bridger moved to Ireland with his Banner born wife and settled in Kilmihil. He called in to see the brewery when passing in 2018 and he kept turning up. He brought with him a passion for brewing and an instinctive knowledge that can not be taught. So, we kept him. Bridger loves seeking out new hops and experimenting with hop combinations resulting in innovative new brews to compliment the existing core range.
Michael is a civil engineer by profession but rather than move abroad like many others when the recession hit, he turned to managing a busy Dublin bar. Working in the bar, he could see first hand how the industry was changing. He was always a keen home brewer and after many experimental batches and a lot of market research / drinking sessions, Western Herd was born. Now Michael keeps a close eye on the brewery operations and developing new beers.
Maeve spent several years working in Luxembourg after her job in finance in Dublin was outsourced. During this time she developed a keen fondness for the various European beer styles with the beer hubs of Germany and Belgium on her doorstep. So when Michael suggested opening a brewery, she quickly got on board putting a business plan together. Maeve takes care of marketing and business development.
